From adolescence onwards, women face very specific health challenges, especially when it comes to hormonal balance. Menstruation and menopause in particular and for some, fertility and pregnancy. To achieve good hormone balance and minimise any ‘ups and downs’, several factors may need to be addressed. The natural manufacture and release of hormones needs to be regulated; the liver needs to efficiently process excess or ‘spent’ hormones; and the gut needs to be in good health to excrete these hormones. In addition, stress hormones need to be in balance, and the nervous system, adrenal glands, thyroid and immune system will need to be supported. Equally the health of the reproductive system as well as gut and vaginal flora will also be important.
